Jesus answered, “Most assuredly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit…The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:5-8
I mean really, how incredible would it have been to be Nicodemus? Further into John 3 the most well known words spoken from Jesus Christ, himself, were spoken straight to Nicodemus. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have ever lasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
To read further into the chapter there is dispute between the disciples and the Jews about purification. They came to John asking about Jesus who was beyond the Jordan baptizing, whom all were coming to, rather than John. In John 3:27-28 “John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness that I said “I am not the Christ” but I have been sent before Him.”
This is so uplifting to me. Because I have been sent before Him. And He has given me gifts from heaven above so that I may go before Him, announcing the name of Christ without naming my own self, Christ.
